For the past couple months, I've been chronicling my experience with NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, the ongoing anime adaptation of one of my favorite video game narratives ever.
What started out as a simple weekly blog to document my reactions to each episode has slowly spiraled into something more. It's become a truly personal writing experience, featuring my reactions to the anime's themes, my interpretations of its philosophy, and my difficulty grappling with Yoko Taro's storytelling and its relationship to how I consume media.
I've also done a lot of research into the lore behind the series that the anime only alludes to, chronicling all the small details crammed into every corner of this densely-packed series. While I'm by no means an expert, the depth to which I've immersed myself in NieR lore over the past few months has given me an uncommon appreciation for the absurd amount of care put into bringing this anime to life.
The anime is currently on hiatus, so now is the perfect time to catch up with it. Whether you're already enjoying the anime or have only played the game, I'd greatly appreciate you taking the time to read some of my thoughts, especially to some of the later episodes. It might just help you find even more to appreciate in each episode of this strange, absurd, and moving work.
