enjoying the little things in life

I got served a facebook ad about a cute soulslike game where you are a hermit crab; initially the color palette and crab caught my eye (it's bright and cheery! I like bright colors, especially in video games) but then I saw it was coming out on the switch, which was also eye catching because I probably would have enjoyed elden ring more if I could play it wherever; anyways I googled it and lo and behold there's a steam demo for it until the 23rd of October so I tried it out and it's cute! It has options to increase invincibility windows (thank you!!), remove fall damage (which is from bottomless pits; you can fall from any height, ur underwater), plus a few others I haven't tried (one is "give the crab a gun", which I think means your shell is a glock based off a trailer image), and in general feels less obtuse than elden ring (which: for the record is the only soulslike I have played). The chief mechanic is your shell; you find various bits of garbage to wear and they have different durability stats and an associated skill. There's also a grappling hook trick you have where you can grapple hooks and reel yourself to them; it plus a gliding/swimming thing adds a platforming element. The menu indicates some enemies/bosses also have hook points? idk in the forty minutes I had so far I couldn't even finish the tutorial so tbd there.

The one haunting aspect of it all is The Garbage. There is trash everywhere. Weapons and shells are all trash. Bottles float about, bits of plastic drift by and you pick up bread claws for extra exp... because exp/money is microplastics.

in conclusion: fb ads. crabs. good colors. haunting setting. I wanna play more later

oh, yeah, the game's called Another Crab's Treasure
