For Cirno day, a story about the best bit of software text I ever got to write:
Someone opened a pull request to Homebrew to add a package that used a license I'd never heard of before, the "strongest license". It's basically the same as the WTFPL, except it has one extra condition: you must "APPRECIATE CIRNO AS THE STRONGEST IN GENSOKYO".
Now, as far as joke licenses go, this is great, but it's got a bit of an issue. Does the user know they have to appreciate Cirno? What constitutes appreciating her? I settled on a solution: similar to other unusual license conditions we shipped at the time, including Qt, we printed a new disclaimer when the user installed the package. We told them "We agreed to the strongest public license for you. If you cannot appreciate Cirno as the strongest in Gensokyo, you should uninstall."
Sadly, the author of the original package ended up relicensing to something more normal before we merged it, so no users ever got to see it.
