Imo a pie doesn't strictly require a bready thing on top
The main thing instead is that it is a bready bowl, that may or may not have a bready lid, with a gooshy filling that is cooked inside the bready bowl
Soup in a bread bowl is not a pie, because the soup is cooked separately, but a deep-dish pizza is a pie
If a Quesadilla is a pie, then sour cream and guacamole are viable pie toppings.
This isn’t me disagreeing btw, I’m just happy to type that sentence.
