When emoji first started being popular, I was really obnoxious about insisting on using emoticons instead, before gradually shifting to overusing emoji out of convenience/habit.
These days, I'm finding myself shifting more and more back into the comforting embrace of :D and u_u
:3 , XD or xD , :P , o.O and o.o and O.O , ;_; , are all superior to their pictorial versions do not try to change my mind you will find my resolve as firm as adamant.
