I go to TikTok and people are sharing vile hateful transphobia without triggering warnings so they can make the 10 millionth “hahaha, transphobes don’t know what pronouns are” joke. That’s great, but I just had to watch an angry man scream about how much he hates people like me so you could make that joke.
I go to Bluesky. The first thing I see is someone reskeeting a screenshot of a hate comment left on someone else’s page. All they say is “see what Bluesky isn’t banning? Real nice, this can trigger people.” You’re right, it can, and it is, and I’m seeing because you shared it.
I come here. I make it two posts before someone rechosts incredibly triggering nonconsent art without any trigger warnings. Seriously, what the fuck?
Genuinely it’s frustrating and upsetting and there’s nothing to do but block and unfollow and move on, but sometimes you just gotta scream into the void about it.
Update to this:
TikTok has started showing me videos from tags I explicitly have banned. Specifically I was hit, back to back, with a video from an evangelical Christian under a tag I’d blocked. That Christian was preaching hate towards trans people, of course.
Then I got one of those “use this sound and interact with this video 3 times or watch everything you love come to hate you” videos under the manifesting tag that I know are bullshit but I have a fucking anxiety disorder I have to chose every time between interacting and thus feeding the algorithm into thinking I want those videos or spend a couple days being paranoid.
I met the love of my life through that app, I found my community there, I basically documented my entire first year of transition there, and one of my favorite things to do is send videos to people I care about on there. Now between the endless barrage of advertisements and content that is not healthy for me, I basically have to stick to tags I know are safe and can’t rely on the FYP anymore and it’s just depressing.
Also as an aside if anyone posts one of those “repost or something bad happens to you” things here the only reason I am blocking you is because I cannot actually hurl you into the sun don’t spread that shit here this is my one safe space on the internet right now.
