this is the kind of thing you use as a metaphor to describe something else:

An Intuitive Machines official said the loss of the range finders stemmed from the company's decision to forgo a test firing of the laser system to save time and money during pre-flight checks of Odysseus at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

"There were certainly things we could've done to test it and actually fire it. They would've been very time-consuming and very costly," Mike Hansen, the company's head of navigation systems, told Reuters in an interview on Saturday. "So that was a risk as a company that we acknowledged and took that risk."

On Friday Intuitive Machines had disclosed that the laser range finders - designed to feed altitude and forward-velocity readings to Odysseus' autonomous navigation system - were inoperable because company engineers neglected to unlock the lasers' safety switch before launch on Feb. 15. The safety lock, akin to a firearm's safety switch, can only be disabled by hand.

So for those of you who don't know, I've been doing delivery driving to make extra money so I don't go broke

It's probably perfect for me because it involves minimal human interaction, I get to discover new restaurants in my city, and I can turn on an audiobook and just have an enjoyable listen while I'm basically doing MMO quests (go to a place, pick up an item, take it somewhere else, and if I do number goes up, except instead of it being an xp bar it's financial number go up.)

As an aside, I desperately need an app that will track how much I make and give me a stratifying sound every "x" amount and tell me I leveled up. It doesn't need to do anything, just give happy sound and number get larger.

BUT.

I've Pavloved myself.

And now I get restless listening to an audiobook when I'm not doing deliveries or playing a game.

they thought we had something special together! that we would never go behind their back for accessibility's sake. can't we just let them be our everything? look at how hard their accessibility team works. how could we do this to them.

Hot take: more harm has been done to gaming by companies trying to “stop cheating” than cheaters ever have.

Accessibility aids get blocked by companies.
Harmful programs are installed to monitor your computer.
Automated reporting systems are weaponized against marginalized people.
People get locked out of a game they bought because a bad actor gave them duplicated goods.

Meanwhile I’ve encountered actual cheaters maybe 3 or 4 times in my entire gaming career. I feel like there are obvious ways to solve the actual cheating that does happen…but those solutions involve billion dollar companies making a few hundred million less, and we can’t have that now can we?
