I’ve always liked this episode and it’s still great! There are many things I love about DS9, and one of them has always been the portrayal of the relationship between Jake and Sisko. It’s so good…Sisko is such a great dad, he cares about Jake so much and it’s clear Jake is the most important thing in his life. I love the conversations they have in this episode about Jake’s writing and future, and just how much joy they derive from sailing a Bajoran solar ship together.
Speaking of, I really like the way they handle said Bajoran solar ship. There is this genuine sense of wonder as the Siskos sail through the stars that feels very quintessentially Star Trek and it’s lovely.
Plus there’s a scene of Julian and Miles getting extremely drunk off whiskey…this is the content I crave.
Also it’s nice to just have an episode with relatively low stakes after the pretty dark two-parter that precedes it. I think this is one of Season 3’s best
