this is Welon, my critically-acclaimed* Suika Game clone inspired online game where you stack and merge fruits!

if you've seen or played Suika Game, this is gonna look mighty familiar. i've attempted to put my own spin on it, though, which mainly manifests with a custom Tetris-inspired scoring system that features combos, and the loss condition being a fruit falling out of the box rather than just the stack getting too high.

if you haven't seen Suika Game, well, it's kinda like 2048 meets Pachinko. you drop various fruits from up above, and two identical fruits touching will merge into a larger fruit. keep doing this until you reach the largest fruit, a watermelon (or "welon" for short) and you win! sorta. you can keep playing indefinitely

it's a lot tricker than it sounds! people have spent multiple hours playing even my prototype versions of this. more/better sounds, graphics, particle effects, leaderboards, etc are some things that are on my list to add still.

the physics engine is a port of Box2D, so it has very good behavior and isn't susceptible to the "launching" bug that Suika Game's Unity physics are.

the whole game is written in Java, and is visible source — the rendering is based on inline SVG, so it doesn't require WebGL or anything.

My only complaint is that the fruits don't have cute faces on them. Please consider this in the next update. Other than that, good game. Physics very nice and I appreciate that I don't lose until a fruit bounces out of the box.

i think my one piece of feedback is that the merging is pretty unforgiving. i've had several instances where i guess the fruit are a few subpixels off despite visually touching and not getting a merge. might be worth adding a few pixels of buffer around?

feels great otherwise!

yeah, this is more inspired by the switch suika game, which is exactly as unforgiving on collisions

the web clone on .io has very forgiving collisions and i don't really like it

maybe a couple pixels would be a good idea, though! thanks for the feedback

It's nice. I do think it is a bit more unforgiving than Suika game though apart from you making changes to the lose condition. In Suika game the fruits rotate slightly which can help the player get some combinations they're close to getting.
