FANDOM, the corporation formally known as wikia, also known as the reason why almost every fan wiki is more or less unusable without adblock now, just bought a ton of gaming review websites. many of these were already owned by the same company, red ventures, but to see even more of online gaming get bought up by probably the most annoying website i ever have to use is kind of terrifying. all the more reason to support independent wikis: the nintendo independent wiki alliance, the friends at the table wiki, the touhou wiki, yugipedia, and more in the comments are all worth prioritizing over their "FANDOM" counterparts, particularly because FANDOM more or less has a stranglehold in terms of search engine optimization. support independent games journalism, support independent wikis.

HOLY SHIT NO FANDOM MY BELOATHED hate fandom so much there's only like 30% wiki content on the page

as for independent wikis, heres one i know that kicked off from being Fandom wikis into their own thing:

  • https://yugipedia.com/ - the real yugioh wiki, forked from the yugioh Fandom wiki by the admins. there's even a browser extension about to change links from the old one to the new one
