I work at a school and just explained the WcDonalds ad campaign to a kid & teacher because a commercial interrupted them watching Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. and i only realized when saying it all out loud how baffling it is to the majority of people. like this is word for word what i said:
"In Japanese cartoons, or anime, they would flip the logo upside down a lot to get around copyright when they had scenes set in a McDonalds. So now McDonalds is doing that on purpose to be like Japanese cartoons."
but to this kid and teacher it was just inexplicably WcDonalds now until i brought it up. and you literally can't blame them.
just need to mention this somewhere. one of my friends mentioned that her mom heard these ads on podcasts in audio form only and assumed it was Wick Donalds to promote john wick
