i finally hooked up the dreamcast earlier tonight & played original sonic adventure... it's always crazy because this game is so deeply ingrained in my mind as having aged poorly & not being as good as i remember, but it's actually just that the more widely available DX releases kept getting worse every time they ported that, and the original release IS really good. it holds up!! it looks great and plays great!!!

the best part of the steam version of DX is that you can mod it so that it's more like the Dreamcast version but it runs at 60 fps
