I feel like "Twitter humor" and "Tumblr humor" are both recognizable concepts and I wonder if Cohost will develop its own signature humor style as the platform matures. Cohost already has forms of humor you don't find anywhere else, but saying "Cohost humor consists of css crimes" is kind of a cop-out, like saying "Twitter humor consists of posts 280 characters or shorter". Saying that Twitter jokes are short doesn't really capture what's interesting about Twitter humor: the surreal non-sequiturs, dry observations, pointed takedowns of public figures. Nor does saying that Tumblr supports improvisational humor get at the heart of what Tumblr Improv is. I'm really excited for Cohost Humor to become a thing, but it's still too early to say what kind of thing it will be.

i guess you could argue that cohost humor so far is just twitter humor and tumblr humor combined, but i still think that even if the style of it is relatively the same, there's jokes being told here that you can't find anywhere else because of CSS and audio uploads being a thing.

you can't write dad jokes on tumblr without the punchline already showing, but here you could hide it behind a details element. i've seen so many other creative ways people have used CSS to post shit and tell jokes, it allows for humor that just isn't even possible on other platforms. the way people have adopted audio uploads here and have started creating rhythm games with them and other shitposts is incredible and i've not seen that anywhere else, not even on discord though it technically supports the same functionality. i feel like the way people treat eggbug as a site mascot is very unique; i'm sure tumblr and twitter have site mascots too, but they're not really as integrated into the website as eggbug is. i feel like eggbug carries a lot of the personality that cohost as a platform has, and most of the shitposts with eggbug reflect the silly nature of having eggbug as a site m- HEY WHAT THE FUCK. HEY. GET OFF OF MY POST. WHAT THE HELL???? what the FUCK. this is exactly what i mean!!! what the fuck eggbug!! why are you ruining my post. i'm trying to explain to people how cool you are and i get THIS in return?? really??? why are you like this. i stg eggbug. who asked you to be here. okay maybe by talking about you you feel like i invited you to just show up. MAYBE. but that doesn't mean you can just RUIN MY ENTIRE POST. oh my GOD. can you just, like, leave??? please???? for FUCKS SAKE. i write ONE post about this platform and THIS happens. you can't have shit here. ugh. i'm gonna cancel my cohost plus subscription. please where is the manager. i need to speak to the manag- oh that's YOU??? EGGBUG?????? I. I MEAN. WHAT???? THEY MADE A BUG THE MANAGER???? i thought their ToS was bad but THIS TAKES THE GOD DAMN CAKE. I CAN'T EVEN QUIT?? I CAN'T EVEN CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION NOW???? eggbug why must you do this to me. ah okay good i think it's over now? is it? ugh i hope it is. i'll probably have to submit a bug report about that now. anyways, where were we? yeah so i really do hope cohost can grow as a platform. i'm excited to see what kind of humor will become popular here. i sure hope they can fix these bugs though, if eggbug keeps doing this nobody will want to use cohost and we'll never see what cohost humor has to give us.

I think Cohost humor is mostly shaped by having been exposed to, and completely burned out on, both Twitter and Tumblr. This is nobody's first social media network but it's also not cool to do cringe culture on here so you get self-awareness and obscure references but not much aggression or mockery

...so the end result of that is mostly doggirls posting "please awoo. $200 reward"

Just spitballing but: Cohost humor has a loose feel to it. Tumblr humor relies on a lot of media references, and in group humor revolving around those media consumption identifies (supernatural for example) whereas Twitter humor relies on believing other people are lesser “archetypes” in a way (I know cuck didn’t originate on Twitter but Twitter humor at large is finding archetypes of people like that and just dunking on them until the end of time).

I find cohost humor accessible? I don’t feel I need to have studied “lore” on the site. Even the eggbug jokes, which are meant to be a bit esoteric to newcomers, are fairly easy to understand. I’ve described it as people messing around at a lunch table
