this was pretty good! I think this is a good sign for the series!!!

spoilers under the cut

  • LOVE the inclusion of that Weird Robot Bug!!! Very good design, wonderfully wacky work.

  • i fucking love the return to mandalore. I love seeing mandalore in live action, I love hearing Bo-Katan reminisce, I love seeing Din fantasize about it. It's the vibes of an ex-religious person touring a church with a devoted convert. It's beautiful, I really love their dysfunctional relationship and I am FULLY onboard with the little Grogu offhand implication that they're flirting.

  • "Something else might have survived." -> to the mythosaur sighting, beautiful. The myths are alive again, Mandalore might survive after all.

  • I have some misgivings about this stopping being the bounty hunter show is kind of buffetted against the walls of "I really like Mandalorian lore and I guess it makes sense that a show called The Mandalorian would be about the Mandalorians" so I'm ok with it. Let's get into Mandalorian Politics! Let's get into it!

  • I am fully onboard with this stupid theory. Let's get it. Let's go. Why not

You nailed it with that second bullet point. I love that Bo-Katan tells Din the lore of the Living Waters off of the historical plaque. This site is as sacred to her- a full-on pog-slurping culturally raised Princess of Mandalore!- as a park bench.

And yet! The wonder of the world is waking up, underneath its glass shell, like flowers in a greenhouse.

You almost get the understanding that the destruction of Mandalore came with the city, not with the city's fall. Its really incredible stuff, almost all carried either with visuals or offhand inferences. Its a lot more sophisticated than Mando usually goes.

PS: Was that Robot Bug a Grievous? Like, another one of whatever he is? It doesn't matter. I think his armored core was stop motion!

PPS: Great showing this week for the Volume, really delivering an expansive and compelling space after some dire work in TBOBF and Obi-Wan. Glad to see it back and thriving.

Yeah I really liked the vibes of Din & Bo in the mines. It really is a level beyond the usual adventure fare of Mandalorian.

Also I don't THINK that guy was A Grievous (those are kaleesh). But he (?) was definitely a Grievous archetype -- a cyborg bug surviving on the various detritus of the Clone Wars/Civil Wars. I loved the sorta-vaguely CIS-looking droid shell that he had.
