I decided to go wandering off the beaten path today (for a different post, some other time) and by chance, the dirt road I took came very close to one of these transmission towers. I love seeing these guys along the side of the road and I never imagined getting to see one so close, so of course I pulled over to take pictures.
As soon as I got out of the car I could hear the crackling of electricity, which I really didn't expect and made me reconsider my plans to stand next to the tower for a size comparison 
Like, it would probably have been fine, but I was happy to keep a respectable distance away from it. It was very nice to be apart from the rest of the world and just listen to the whistling wind and power cracks, though.
get anywhere near one of these babies and you can just FEEL the electricity.
it's kind of insane.
