in reply to @DecayWTF's post:

i have a whole bunch of thoughts around this topic i need to put into some long-form writing. i'm working on building a personal blog platform, and i want that to be the first thing i post on that, so hopefully i'll get to talk about it all soon

but to summarise a bit: if we want "everybody in one place" to die, we need good infrastructure to build our own communities in it's place. there's a lot to do to get to a point where it's easy to do that, and i've got Ideas there that will be the topic of the aformentioned writing

I mean I agree absolutely but a big part of that is social; we have platforms and mechanism, and while many of them are not good and some new work needs to happen on the technical side, the greater part is going to be social supports. Things like taking new approaches to things like moderation that are not designed to afflict a small percentage of the users with psychic damage and trauma and leave the greater number feeling disempowered and at the mercy of The Owners in whatever form. So I look forward to seeing what you're thinking there!

Yeah, one of my issues as I try to get out there and meet new people is trying to find local internet communities. Meetup.com can be okay for JUST trying to meet up, just focused on the events themselves, but it's also nice sometimes using SNS to foster relationahips in the meantime. IDK, I have thoughts, it's a big thing for me.
