i don't want to use firefox because sometimes i run across a website that only works on chrome
yes, that... that would be the entire problem actually
earlier i ran across someone saying they would switch to firefox in a heartbeat, if only mozilla would fix the things their website does that don't work in firefox. i looked and the thing they specifically called out was... based on the nonstandard internet explorer zoom property.
which works in chrome. for some reason
it's all happening again. i've been sent back in time twenty years. soon there will be websites that refuse to work because my browser isn't sending them a list of ad topics it thinks i want to see, like chrome will soon do
Back during the IE6 days, Firefox was the browser that basically popularized tabbed browsing1. Suddenly the calculus wasn't a nebulous, vague, "don't use IE6 because Microsoft sucks and will make the Web Bad" (which most of users don't give a shit about, sadly) but became "Use Firefox, it lets you open multiple websites in the same window at once, it fucking rules", the "doesn't contribute to Microsoft's total control of the web" was icing on the cake.
I don't know what that feature would be in our current age, but yeah, we need something that sells people on non-Chromium browsers. Maybe it will be the whole Web Integrity bullshit and Google finally acting on deprecating Manifest V2 and severely limiting adblockers, but who knows.

I know others had it first, but Firefox is the one most people discovered that concept with.
