tangentially: they do have tires you can get that dont use air tubes and so dont go flat! i forget what they're called but its kinda cool tech. i think they require a bit more effort to pedal or something? there's some reason they're less appealing to ride on, which i assume was just more pedal power required but i was special-interesting about this years ago so my memory is loose. iirc those bikes that bike-share-app-companies dispense onto cities actually use the the tubeless tires im talking about. they're usually electric, and also usually shaft-driven instead of chain-driven.

In general those bike-share-bikes are really interesting to me in how they choose components that can more readily take abuse from random people who dont respect them, and also just general road-wear without much maintenance. Most of the choices make the things more durable but at the cost of adding a lot of weight and upfront cost so the things are suuuper hard to lift up, and the e-assist is nearly mandatory (i rode some of the ones they made before e-assist in them became common, it was hard for me at the time and that in my cyclist phase while on testosterone) but they are tanks.

in the realm of more practical for normal people i remember there's some kinda tubes they make that are lined inside with a goop that hardens on exposure to air, the idea being it can self-patch itself for small punctures. no idea if they're any good but it sounds cool o.0
