i don't think it's talked about enough how much homeownership is also often a trap.
let's see. there's the mortgages, the homeowners associations, and the way they like to restrict access to certain amenities based on your zip code. did I miss any of the big ones?
cast iron pipes, maintenance items that require ten figures set aside, problems with stuff like wiring that don't really count for equity, etc. and I'm not even someone who's had to own a house, these are just the failure modes of everyone i know who's tried to buy housing in a city even at market rate
