I've picked up Elden Ring again over the last few days to start getting a character appropriately leveled for the DLC, and since I last played they added a killer new feature: you can now join summoning pools for regions you're not in.
Some background for those who haven't done a ton of Elden Ring co-op: if you want to help random strangers with boss fights (and earn some souls and Rune Arcs for your trouble), you have two options. You can do the traditional Dark Souls thing of putting down your summon sign in a specific location near the boss door, but you can also activate Effigies of the Martyr, which look like this:
Back when I last played, you could activate the Small Golden Effigy item to place your summon sign at every Effigy of the Martyr you'd activated in the current region. This was great! For an open-world game, there are often a lot of bosses that are generally at the player's level, so this made it possible to summon into whichever one someone needed you rather than just choosing one boss and waiting near it.
But in a patch since then, it got even better: you can now choose to send your summon sign to all Effigies of the Martyr in the entire game. This means you can actually keep playing as normal and just get warped wherever someone needs you. You don't even need to worry about being underleveled relative to your current region—you'll just get summoned wherever your level is appropriate. As someone who really likes helping people beat bosses, I'm absolutely over the moon about this change.
