Ohhh geez, yeah. You'd probably have some stronger emotions in that regard than me - my anger is mostly secondhand, I had an internet friend long ago from another country where human trafficking is horrifically common and they were snatched off the street at a young age.

There's this idea in my head of someone who spends years working within that system slowly accumulating the pieces they need to escape, and then further years using what they learned and observed and connections to the more powerful "clients" to bring it all down in a blaze. Maybe some themes about how violence begets violence, but if so would have to be done tastefully and carefully, the protagonist would never be seen as doing anything bad, at the worst portrayed as just a vehicle for pure karma, like they feel their humanity was taken a long time ago and now they're just a force of nature.

Which is why I come back to Taxi Driver as a point of reference.

I've also toyed with the notion of adding Twin Peaks-ian supernatural elements but I wonder to myself if that would be inappropriate given the subject matter.
