(although i've watched a few episodes of eccleston and tennant, both actors i adore in other contexts too)
(below the cut since it's potentially spoiler-y)
SPACE BABIES: really silly, i appreciate the full-ass dedication to the bit, also glad the disney money is going towards "better suits, better sets." incredible production design
THE DEVIL'S CHORD: queer-coded villains written by gay people just hit different. it's not "i find gay people scary and sinister", it's "i think it's fun when cunty gay people are evil." and they're right. also really fuckin great costuming throughout. jinkx monsoon was a fuckin great Villain Of The Week here.
WIDER SEASON NOTES: my understanding is that the degree of fourth-wall-breaking this series so far is much more intense than past series. (characters speaking directly to the camera, recurring actors in different roles, the doctor saying "i thought that music was non-diegetic") this combines with an overarching villain theme so far of "narrative concepts" which makes me wonder what direction they're going in here. ruby's apparent reality-warping powers are likely going to create some really interesting action throughout and also points to a sort of meta-narrative about... fiction as a whole? is this series of doctor who "fictional"? fascinating stuff. excited to keep watching it.
