@TheAusSpideyGuy asked:

Got two questions to ask! You may have gotten this one asked a lot and I apologise if I'm like the hundredth person to ask it, but what got you interested in having a Moth sona? They're an absolutely gorgeous sona! Really love the design. ^^w^^

And my other question which is super important and must be answered no matter what!...Do you like spiders as well? ::B

I don’t nearly get asked this enough, and I’m not often comfortable enough to talk in details BUT I AM TODAY AND HERE c: (so don’t worry about it 💜)

I come from a looooong line of fursona changes ever since I started using them back when I was what, 15? Back then dinosaurs and lizards were my jam so I went with a komodo dragon for those early years. Most of the art I made and got during that time is stored somewhere, so I'll just show one that I commissioned a good friend of mine for and that I still love a bunch! Here's my fursona from... what 2013-2016?

But he never really felt like me no matter how hard I redesigned him, and I redesigned him A BUNCH. and see that was always the most important part to me - I had to feel like he was me to be comfortable with the sona.

Fast forward to college (well... college round 2 actually), I fell in love with moths. Started out with my love of cryptids (Mothman-senpai…) but quickly enough it became love of bugs and especially the fluffy creechurs called moths.

But I didn’t go moth then. I made a few OCs, I made bug art, but my sona? I made myself a “space cow-dragon” called Atlas! Can you tell I hadn't realized I was trans yet? lmao c:

Very soon after the realization dawned on me and I quickly updated her design!
She was nice and I loved her a lot, and it was my first expression of myself as a trans person, but in the end she ended up feeling… just partially what I wanted my sona to be. The vibes were there but the species was not yet right.
Every year (CW boobie) after that one I would update her design and her lore trying to find that sweet spot but it just wasn't just right.

I never stopped drawing moths tho, and not long after I finished working on a portfolio project that had bugs in it, I started working on a moth character that would be “just an oc”. Then she became “part of Atlas canon”… And then I was like, fuck it let’s fuse her and Atlas and make THAT my sona.

And so Atlas the MOTH was born! I kept a lot of elements of her original cow design, such as color palette and outfit choice, and also added a few nods to her past as little design choices, the hoofed feet, the antennae in the shape of horns, just little details c:

As for all the space and sci-fi elements? Some which already existed in my first sona way back when, even. They're just my love for space showing, I was always a bigass nerd on that department, nothing to hide ehe

Regardless, embracing the moth has done wonders for me in general. Not only I feel like she's the first sona I genuinely wholeheartedly see as myself, others see as well! Friends that knew me since my lizard fursona era have told me that my moth really does feel like me to them as well!!

Now, I could go many more paragraphs talking about how Atlas allows me to indulge and embrace my transhumanist and otherkin feelings, but I feel like that would be derailing the answer a bit too much! XP

Also, regarding spiders: love em, they're wonderful cute and cool little guys :3

You are very welcome Atlas! Legit it is such a distinctive moth with designs that are tremendously cool, I say as someone who has occasionally seen ya moth in art you post every now and then. Knowing the context behind some of the design choices really adds to it all! oOwOo

This was an overall fantastic response and a very entertaining read, thank you so much for the answer! It's always entertaining to see basically the evolution of someone's sona from the beginning to where they are now, especially in how it helps the fur do their self-exploration and grow as an individual. I do feel like moth memes, Mothman and all the kinds really helped kinda explode the moth sonas in popularity. XXD

But like, the fact your sona greatly helped in many aspects from you feeling more expressive about yourself being trans, to even the transhumanism and otherkin aspects, which I honestly do find fascinating and legit it's amazing where it all leads to. It's even more exciting, cause ya never know what other potential aspects ya and your sona may take you in future. ^^w^^

I will say though, I did try to check the Trello links, and most of them were unfortunately private, which I can understand if that was intended, but just wanted to give ya a heads up. ..w..;

Finally, as a member of the spidey crew, we shall greatly appreciate the answer of support and shall provide you many years of good spooder luck. \\\(oOwOo)///✨✨

Thanks a bunch again for the compliments c: I do love her a lot, and besides a few style tweaks which are normal as artists "grow up" I don't see myself changing her design anytime soon!

I do agree that the "cryptid boom" in the mid 2010s definitely helped! Be it through Mothman or just general bug-positivity we're starting to see more often in social media it's been helping folks embrace the bug c:

I mean, if you think about it, it's like a domino chain! Or that "small brain to galaxy brain" meme template lmao Start with "I like dinosaurs" to "I am moth and trans" ehee

Oh noo the trello being private was an accident! I reposted the pics on imgur and updated the links! So you can try them now c:

YESS SPIDER LUCK LETS GOOO <3

You are very much welcome for it all! That I can understand, especially when the designs reach that point of "Yep, this is me, and I love it." XX3

It's honestly spectacular, even spiders are slowly seeming to be a bit more accepted, especially cause there's a lot more of a better understanding, really hope we truly can get more people comfy with the concept of BUG. ::3

With the way some folks evolve along with the sona, it truly does act like a domino effect. XXD

Thaaank you for the link fixes, can really see the evolution through the pics now, hehe.

And heck yeeeah!!! I'm glad to provide. ::3

Yesss it's so good (to me at least) when there's no distinction between the person and the sona c: Feels less of a "mask" and more an extension of the self, which drastically changes the whole thing owo

And yeah spiders are def getting more love lately! I can only hope it'll keep increasing and folks will be nicer and kinder to animals in general, especially the ones they see as "bad" or "creepy" uwu
