watched the new mario movie last night w/ my brother (who kept insisting I watched 1he 1993 film with him, even though I'm 100% sure I haven't). It was, like, paced weird, right? Like, it kinda felt rushed especially at the beginning and the characters don't really have much connection to eachother. DK and mario had a little bit of an arc, but I don't think anybody else did. Luigi had, like, a 15-second flashback to justify his undying loyalty to his brother. Kinda soulless movie, but I guess it filled the air for a while.
Anyway, I don't really want to talk about the film because I had much more fun making fun of the bonus content. Mostly the French crew who I decided to envision as very prestigious filmmakers who were making some kind of "Waiting for Godot"-type film about a sad mime or something before being approached by nintendo and just imagining them seeing this as a sort of healthy compromise to their original vision. There was a moment where I noticed they had not interviewed one of the french crew for a few minutes and I had this visceral vision of them being too busy collectively tearing apart a giant piece of cheese like a pack of feral dogs backstage. Idk, maybe you just had to be there and in my headspace at the time.
I laughed so hard when Miyamoto was like, "we planned from the start we wanted this movie to feature the Mushroom Kindom." WHAT A NON-STATEMENT! LMAO! "We really wanted this movie to have Mario"-type statement.
