well, that's the thing: it's a land shellfish. the kosher rule forbidding shellfish (iirc) is specifically about the fact that it's a creature of the water without fins or scales
So then living armour is bound by the rules of land animals, i.e. does it chew cud or have cloven hooves? You'll have to check the feet to see if they're wearing tabis.
Alternately, it's an insect; but since it's born and lives inside the armor, it never touches the ground or flies
