Hello, Cohost. I'm here today to talk to you about the character Sugiura Midori from 2004 battle girl anime Mai-HiME. Why? Because I love this character a whole lot despite being only 7 episodes into this series which I think is about 30 episodes long. Consider the following facts as supporting evidence;

The character Sugiura Midori from the anime "Mai-HiME." She has orange-brown hair, is wearing a pink-and-white waitress's outfit, and is holding a large polearm with an S-shaped blade on the end of the handle. Subtitled dialogue text indicates that she is introducing herself as "The HiME of Wind."

  • Midori, in a series where henshin sequences do not happen and everyone else treats their at this point largely unexplained characters with a mix of grave responsibility and fear, hollers out her attack names (which I imagine she made up herself?) like she's a Pretty Cure character.
  • Midori is a substitute teacher. I often lament the lack of adult magical girls so this is just nice to see, but it brings us also to the point that
  • Midori is often drunk off her ass. This is objectively funny, especially when it lets us get images like this. This frame is literally a gift from the gods.

Midori with her eyes closed and oval-shaped pink blush spots on her cheeks. She is drunk.

-also, as a consequence of being a HiME (that's what the local magical girls are called), Midori has a funny robot animal guy as a combat companion. Hers is named Gakuten-O and I love how its aesthetic does not match hers at all.

A large red, black, and grey robotic wolf or dog creature. Midori stands next to it on the right.

Godspeed Midori. I love you so much.
