you should pirate shit

you should download files. it's fun, free, and better for the world than streaming services. "but it's hard" this is a guide. i promise you don't need to be a computerhead. i believe in you.

why should i pirate shit?

  • streaming services suck. in every industry, they make their money by financially ruining the people who make the art they profit off of. their algorithms, instead of helping you "discover new art", funnel you into what they want you to watch/listen/play. they're janky & inconsistent & are all missing things. fuck em.
  • having your collection of files rules. remember how dads would get excited about their cd or dvd collections? they were right. that shit rules. trust me: knowing your collection represents your tastes, and you're in control of what's in it feels sick as hell.
  • it's free! spend your 10 bucks a month buying music from a broke artist on bandcamp instead. easy.
  • using media library server software, you can stream your own files to your tv/phone/etc, like streaming services.
  • pirate streaming sites also exist but tbh they also suck and I'm not trying to sit through "try not to cum" ads to watch a show in questionable quality with no subtitle options.

did you know you can use qbittorrent search plugins to find torrents?

literally couldn't be simpler - download the .py files for the search engines on that list, import them into qbittorrent. if you get stuck here's a more detailed tutorial with screenshots

people say torrenting stuff is confusing - and yeah, it can be a bit!! but with this you literally just need the one application. find the torrent you want, set a download location, and bob's yer uncle!! 😎

No, it's not on the App Store or Play Store. This is by design.

You know the thing where NSFW creators, models, artists, etc. ask for protections so that they can make a living and not be impacted by bullshit regulations? This is why. Cohost is a NSFW-friendly site meaning that if it had an App, it would have to abide by (literally only) Apple's rules. Apple hates porn and it does not want it on its app store. It's why Twitter has insane rules around hiding it and why Discord makes you toggle NSFW servers on Desktop manually. Remember when Tumblr banned porn and everyone left? It was almost entirely because of this. To avoid this happening here, there is no native app.

Also the team is four people and it would take more than that to maintain an iOS, Android, and web experience that is consistent across the board.

However, you can very easily add Cohost to your Home Screen like an app. Here's how!

iOS

Open cohost.org in Safari and click the Share button at the bottom. (It's the middle one.) In that list, click Add to Home Screen. That's it!

Now just log in, and you're set.

Android

For Chrome users, open cohost.org and tap the three dots/hamburger menu. (I don't know what it looks like, I'm not on Android sorry.) From there, select Add to Home Screen.

For Firefox users, open cohost.org, tap the hamburger menu and select "Install".

Now just log in, and you're set.

Finished!

Now you have Eggbug on the go! The Cohost mobile site was built to functionally work like an app and the features are identical to the website. Enjoy!

hello friends. i am not sure i am ready to return to being active on the internet for a while - things are... hard? a lot? different? and frequently i am paralysed by that feeling in my chest that everything is sinking and there is nothing to hold onto. not all change is bad, but all change can shake your foundation. but i miss you all and i have been making lots of silly things that i am excited to share eventually (soon, hopefully), in hopes it will bring you joy.

in the meantime though, i really wanted to share SCULPTURE PARK ! this is our clay critter zine that we've been working so hard on. i had the honour of taking part in this zine alongside some immensely talented and creative people ! everyone has such a unique artistic voice and all the critters are top notch and so delightful and inspiring to behold. this was a long time in the making and so much hard work, so please check it out ! rook poured their heart and soul into putting it all together and we even have beautiful pixel art from onyx to really bring it all together.

sculpture park is free to download on itch.io !

we would all be so grateful if you could share so even more people can look at our very shaped beasties <3

i miss everyone here very much and our little creative community. cohost always feels so warm and inspiring. i will do my best to get back on my feet soon and return !
