I mostly post about fighting games, adventures outdoors, books and stories I’ve appreciated, cooking, and perhaps some art

Tonight at locals we ran a granblue versus 10v10 team battle and it was incredibly fun. We split people into random teams, then each team would send up a player to play a single bo1 game. Winner stays on, loser is eliminated, and last team with players standing wins.

I went up pretty early, hoping to knock off a unist player who'd eliminated the first couple members of our team. It was my first time playing in front of a big group of people and nerves got to me a bit. Feel like I played kinda sloppy in neutral in our first round, then when I finally did get her in the corner, dropped my combo which cost me the round. Round 2 I settled in and felt a lot better, early on nailed the corner combo I dropped round 1, install supered off its knockdown and was feeling great... except with my team cheering for me, was feeling myself TOO hard, and followed up the install super with an incredibly unsafe lumi setup off the same knockdown, promptly got punished for my greed, and things went downhill from there as I went back to feeling rattled. It was real good practice for playing a "real match" though, as I don't think I'd ever felt nerves like that before.

From there, our team had a rough time of things. The random team setup was pretty deeply uneven with the other team having quite a few more of the granblue regulars, and our team went down like 4-9 or something like that. Except when I say "the random team setup was deeply uneven", I mean our 10th member and team captain was EVO top 8 competitor and #1 North American player ZomBmu, who proceeded to tear through the entire remaining opposing team like it was nothing. It was pretty incredible watching him just sail through match after match without even coming close to dropping a round, giving us the questionably deserved win.

All in all the entire thing was a blast. It was a ton of fun gathering around and getting hype and cheering people on, and even if my match didn't go the way I wanted it to, comboing off on someone with a dozen or so people all roaring in the background was an absolutely sick moment. It was also really cool having Granblue Versus be the star of the show of locals tonight and get the focus of 2 dozen plus people when it can sometimes be seen as a bit of an ugly duckling of a game. The Seattle GBVS scene has been absolutely popping off the last couple weeks, and I feel like tonight really showcased that to the broader local scene.
