Spent some time tonight drawing Shiva and Sensei, the two main characters of Girl From the Other Side. I watched the OVA with a few friends for Halloween and really loved it. It’s gorgeous and melancholy and haunting and the art style of its animation is absolutely stunning, and I really liked seeing the way its characters grew together.. I’ve also heard good things about the manga. I haven’t read it yet but might wanna check it out at some point, it certainly seemed like the OVA was taking a lot of its style cues from it.

As far as these two, I really love their contrasting visual styles and the crisp sharpness of Sensei’s formal wear and the weirdness of his monstrous form, the way he exists almost entirely in shadow, alongside Shiva’s soft floofy rounded style and white hair and dress. It’s really fun drawing the two of them alongside each other. Also the “small girl in big loose flowy dress” is such a good character design (as is handsome, anxiously caring monster guy).

Quick sketch I did the other day to try and get an image to paper of Olivia, the character I’m playing in a Monsterhearts game with some local fighting game friends. She’s horrendous. I love her. She’s an anxious control freak overachiever from a rich family who uses her social status and plentiful access to adderall and benzos to win social status at her school and use that to bulldoze over others to get what she wants. I didn’t quite realize when creating her how much Monsterhearts as a game would mechanically push her into social destructiveness all the time, but it’s been kinda fun playing the villain with her. As of two sessions in she’s burned bridges with two of the other player characters, so at this point I’m just real curious to see whether my awful daughter is going to continue her self destruction or if she somehow manages to hit the breaks on her spiral at some point.
