The hollowed out shell of porcelain clacked along awkwardly after the Witch. The noises of tugging strings and tiny legs were nearly imperceptible. Or well, imperceptible for a mortal, a guileless rube, or innocent-hearted doll.

"Before I can accept you into my ranks-" the Witch announced with grim solemnity. "You must see this."

Deep within the Witch's storage, hanging neatly on a shelf, was a flamethrower.

"And this is just the most brutish way of dealing with your kind." The Witch sung with a sort of vile teasing "In case you get any ideas~"

The doll shell nodded with understanding.

The witch inspected its cold face carefully "You're lucky your model is so cute- and I have a thing for clever spiders." The Witch patted the hard porcelain "With a voice-box and few enchantments you'll be a model doll in no time."

The next day, the Witch announced she had adopted a new doll. A strange new doll, mute for now and with a taste for bugs. It's new sisters would take to it quickly. They'd serve it ant-tea, and in return the new doll would weave them the most charming dresses. A true little seamstress, that one. Although no one but the Witch ever watched the new doll do its work.

There was a story on Empty Spaces Twitter about spiders infecting dolls- until the point that the whole doll hive was lost!

So witches are concerned spider infections. Spiders are powerful and need to be feared + respected.

{Jess} I have a friend who's a doll! I mean, not the same kind of doll, she had an accident at a friend's house and that friend is a ghost, so it's a haunted house and you know how haunted houses are -- or maybe you don't? -- anyway, now she's a doll instead of a girl who plays lots of sports but never seems to actually have fun.
