A private room, in a private bar, in a magical guardian friendly part of a neutral city- a perfect place for two magical girls from very different walks of life to meet.

"Why are you independent magical girls so- showy?" the normally tight-lipped Global Freedom Defender Jessica complained, "I swear our uniform gets stricter every time CAT News runs a segment on how panty shots are corrupting today's youth."

Ebony Void sipped on her martini, "This again? They're independent! Even if I disagree, which I don't, who am I to tell them what to do?" Ebony giggled at her old roommate "Funny hearing this from Little Miss Corporate Sellout. How many brands are on your power suit nowadays? I'm surprised you have room for a visor."

Jessica slammed down her beer mug. This was a challenge. "Don't you have your little magical giel union thing to keep each other in line? With each new group the skirts are shorter, the midrifts are higher, and the tops leave less room the imagination! You all are abusing your magic and extended lives to create unrealistic body expectations." Jessica took a sip of her beer before blurting out another line, "Then the women aren't enough! You gotta put the men in those outfits too!"

"Eh- its the way of our times! I just do my best to enjoy it. The Magical Girl Union has better things to do then litigate skirts." Ebony Void finished her drink with a flourish. She smiled to herself "And aren't you just doing a different kind of fanservice? News appearances? Golf trips? You had to shake hands with some weapons dealers for the cameras! All for that news station you hate but your sponsors love." Ebony Void leaned back into her booth dramatically "In my eyes, its those corporate overlords who are abusing magic and extended lives. That Murdoch guy is 120 now? You don't get that old looking like that through sheer love of god and country."

The classic series of points that made her uncomfortable. Jessica gave the sigh of defeat. Her old roomie still knew how dig at her.

Jessica jumped to the next topic. "Read up on going independent, like we talked about before. I'd have to change my name and look somehow but it is possible. My contract is strict, but I should still be free once my main obligations are up in 10 years."

Ebony smiled back at her old friend reassuringly. Jessica stared at her empty mug. Private events like this were the only time she was allowed to let go. She considered ordering a refill, but decided against it. She still had to stumble to her hotel with grace, and she was definitely feeling her drinks.

"Speaking of which-" Jessica made effort to not slur her words "Is that your magical uniform nowadays? Or are you just showing off to mess with me?"

Ebony Void grinned from ear to ear. "A little of column A, little of B. People perceive my uniform as exactly as they expect it- and you always have quite the active imagination~" Ebony swerved onto her feet, and poked Jessica's nose playfully "Maybe one day I'll even get you to admit certain feelings~"

"You're still the little imp you always were!" Jessica complained as she swatted away Ebony's gesture. Ebony sat back down while giving an innocent but understanding smirk. They both had their roles. They both had their walks of life. And those facts dictated who they were allowed to be. They both knew that.

Jessica exhaled. She pressed a button to request water for their room. It was time to sober up. She had to be up early tomorrow for meetings. She really should think about leaving now.

Maybe once she was independent she'd be free to partake in her old roommate's shenanigans. Maybe. But for the time being, she was a professional. And floozy magical girls just made her job harder.
