Look at this mass casualty event. The PC-98 style is great, and more importantly, the 80s-inflected fashion sense is phenomenal.
The remake designs really make one want to start whining about what modernity has taken away from us
edit: wow this did severals! anyway, i checked back with the VNDB pages and came up with some quick trivia:
- backgrounds: remake's sprites were made in a way that allows extraction as transparent files, while the OG game makes that harder, which means backgrounds were retained in their VNDB portraits
- The remake uses an all new staff, which explains a lot tbh
- Shocker: There are multiple remakes of Doukyuusei!. elf ported the game to windows with completely redrawn, arguably even more cursed, art, and a drastically rewritten script. The 2022 version is based on the PC-98 version
