But in your absence, they went elsewhere
One doll, wanting to be treasured, buries itself deep under sand. It left clues and hints in bottles and strange message boards. It rests under the earth, satisfied with whatever fate befalls it now.
The other doll, wanting to spark joy, lies in a crane machine. The children who win it (merely lifting it's arm is enough, it won't fit through the chute) never keep it for long.
So the doll returns to the crane game once more. At least the girl running the arcade likes it.
