Very much trying to avoid the “look! The rebels fighting for justice are just as bad as the villains!” crap that a lot of modern games do in Rose’s backstory. While the cause she was fighting for was degraded by other actors after the betrayal of the Coalition, and she did end up fighting for what amounted to a fanatical faction as a result, it wasn’t because the rebels were “just as bad”.
Looking at real-world revolts, I’m either going with “more extremist voices in the faction took charge when they capitalized on ‘look, the old way isn’t working’, or a split in the faction- one side going ‘the terms the Coalition gave us suck, but we’re going to work this out aboveboard’ and the other going ‘actually I think the cycle of revenge sounds great and it will Definitely Work for us’”
Even saying that, I like the latter- Rose would have fallen in with the latter, being hotheaded and used to solving problems from behind the controls of a fighter. Of course, this faction ended up destroying the nation she had fought to save just as the other faction was gaining positive traction, but hey, we do dumb shit in our 20’s….
