  • In general? It lands firmly in "yeah, this is fine". Not as teeth-pulling as ARR, not as tight and engaging as Heavensward. Solid 7/10.
  • Lyse as the star of the show Does Not Earn It- every "breakthrough" moment she has seems to be forgotten later, and she never quite develops enough character to feel like a realized person. Honestly, this should have been Raubahn's show, full stop.
  • Doma was a weird diversion that broke up the narrative flow, though it was a fun diversion. Liked the cast, though there were a lot of moments of "why am I doing this for people who hate me" before the plot proper got into full swing. Ultimately satisfying... with caveats.
  • Christ am I tired of "let's redeem the irredeemable monsters" as a trope the game falls back on. No, Fordola and Yotsuyu don't deserve "actually they're woobies" moments, their actions long since stripped them of any sort of sympathy, you can't be pulling this shit. Real shades of "well what if both sides are wrong?"
  • Zenos was fun. Just kind of a monster, which... sometimes ya just need to be up against a monster.
  • All in all the fights were terrific, though stuff like the swimming sections did not earn their stay, and I see why they don't come back.
  • Nobody can fucking stay dead in this expansion, cripes.

yeah like i didn't hate stormblood but it's definitely the weakest expansion imo. they had a lot of cool stuff going on i think but there was quite frankly TOO much going on so it felt like they couldn't really bring it all together in a way that felt cohesive? just did not flow well

As far as Yotsuyu goes I think it's less of an attempt at a redemption and more just adding to the tragedy of her character. She blames the circumstances of her life for turning her into the monster and when she turns into a blank slate with her memories lost, it seems she was kind of right. She never had someone like Gosetsu in her life and if she had she could have been a better, kinder person. And she knows this. That's why he shows up during her fight.

Not saying anything she did was justified, just that there's a lot of sadness to her character.
