ok i hate to bring le epic stupid ass discourse to cohost especially way after the fact but i was thinking abt this earlier and i need to ask: why did sonic twitter immediately turn on ppl for drawing tails with blue shoes after it was such a hit initially

#i saw an artist like freak out abt their old art of blue shoes tails bein dug up fr the discussion like Wat is goin on #'bc it's sonic twitter' is the easy copout explanation ofc like Duh but i want more info

yeah no like. there was an old piece of art for like a mega drive strategy guide where tails' shoes were miscolored blue instead of red and people were like "aww cute :) they're like sonic's fur color" so that became a Thing people did but i guess somewhere down the line it started to piss people off for some reason?? even though it's a concept that's in an absurdly small contingent of fanart even in its prime😭

no exactly like. maybe this is just because i am a homestuck fan where character designs are so unbelievably mutable but who could possibly care that much about it. like. i see a pretty decent amount of sonic fan art and remember what they look like pretty well and i dont think id even notice

sonic's always had a very vocal and kinda testy fanbase (as amy alluded to w/ the green eyes debacle) but part of me also wants to blame twitter's tendency to turn little shit into debate club deathmatch for exacerbating the problem lol
