I've never finished a role-playing game.
I've dabbled in JRPGs like Final Fantasy VII, Persona 5, and Trails in the Sky. I've played a lot of Pokemon. I want to try playing a TTRPG. But when I've played an RPG, I've never been able to finish it.
I give up early in the quest. When the game shows me an expansive world map and asks me to go places, I stop playing. What good is freedom if I'm slow? It takes forever to get anywhere, and I'm forced to fight random encounters every minute.
Once I fight random encounters, I'm no longer at full health. I need to use healing items. I don't like to use healing items. I hoard them in case I need them later. It makes the game difficult and unfun.
And I don't enjoy turn-based combat. I don't want to think when I'm playing a video game! I love solving logic puzzles and writing computer programs, but when I'm playing a video game, I want to play on reaction and instinct. I love 2D platformers and Guilty Gear for this.
I'd play RPGs if they didn't have any of those features, but those are the features that make them RPGs. I'll leave RPGs to other people and stick to the games I enjoy.
