i miss my old phone alarm.
back when i was in middle school, i had a spice mi-300 - an old smartphone. it's the only phone i've ever seen that had a built-in trackball.
because i was in middle school, i didn't know many people to call or websites to browse. i mostly used my phone to set timers and alarms. there was one alarm sound i loved. it was an extremely loud, harsh buzz. it sounded like the malicious union of an angry swarm of bees and a vibrating glass full of ice cubes. when i played it, it was guaranteed to wake me up. it also woke up everyone else in the house, but i thought it was fine. they could just get used to it.
i used that alarm sound for years. i only stopped when i got a new phone. i liked my new phone, but it was filled with "pretty" alarm sounds. it didn't have the harsh buzz i was used to. to this day, i've never been able to find another alarm that sounded like it.
i really miss it. it was perfect for waking me up on school mornings. if i still had it, i'd always be early to my college classes. i'll keep searching for it. until i find it, i'll rely on my latest phone's high-pitched beep. it's no harsh buzz, but it still wakes me up in the morning, and that's all i need it to do.
