have you ever listened to a song for just one specific part? you know, that one part of the song that's so good that you want to keep listening to it. it doesn't matter how the rest of the song is - you listen to it for just that part. it sticks in your head for a week. you play it on loop when you can. then, one day, it fades out of your memory and you stop listening to it.

then, years later, it pops back into your head. you revisit it, and that part is as good as you remembered. except now, you think the rest of the song is a little better too.

for me, this is that song.

i was in high school when i heard it. for a week, all i could think about was the riff. i love the opening riff. it's filled with fuzzy, hard-edged distortion. when it bends and slides between notes, its tone seems to glow like metal in a furnace. then the drums kick in, and it turns into a behemoth lumbering over rusty sands.

the rest of the song is alright. the verses sound lonely and subdued. the chorus rises higher, backed by twisting chords. each set of vocals is separated by the return of the opening riff. with how often the opening riff repeats, it feels like the band knew they had a good one. they wanted to use it as much as they could.

after returning to the song for the first time in years, i realised it was as good as i remembered. i'm bringing it back for you to listen.
