daily knowledge: early versions of Sonic Adventure 2 featured a prototype version of City Escape that had a slightly different melody. this melody was remixed in the Classic version of City Escape that was featured in Sonic Generations.

where does it show up in the sonic generations track? the main change i notice is in the beginning of the second verse, and i think the two tracks sound pretty different there. plus there's always Endless Mine as a possible influence.

the melody that begins at 0:24 in the prototype track appears at 2:09 in the generations track.
