is it a good idea to have all your game's data and assets bundled up in one big .WAD file? I like the getup Doom has where the source code is freely available but you still have to pay for the WADs. wishful thinking maybe, but successful games that are open source/easy to mod always foster passionate communities, and so many budding game devs got their start by modding their favorite games. I'm just wondering if that's going to create maintainability issues if assets/levels/data needs revising. Failing that, there's always Quake's model of having all the data in one folder.
I think a lot about how so many famous engineers got their start taking apart toys and appliances in their childhood to see how they worked. nowadays stuff is made with tamper proof screws for planned obsolescence reasons, and that's probably going to have some unforseen consequences for the next generation of engineers.
