I really appreciate how the mom is written in this chapter. I feel like in recent years, I've seen more media talking about adults struggling with their responsibilities as parents, sometimes entirely giving up on them, without treating those people like horrible monsters. Not everyone is up to the task of raising a child!
It resonates with me as I've started reconnecting with my own mother some years ago after being more distant and closed-off from her in my childhood.
