i have nothing to back this up but i think a lot of people in their 30s–late 20s are getting to the point where they've been disconnected from youth culture for a while—except from what they encounter online—and it's lead to a lot of viral essays from writers of this age range that don't provide any tangible evidence or unique point other than "things used to be better"

Not sure if this is what you’re seeing but I think it’s related: My new pet thing I’m mad about is queer millennials uncritically repeating that whatever problematic behavior they find online is coming from queer gen z and… it drives me nuts. I think gen z is great. I think the kids are alright. I have a weird vent in my drafts about this that I’ll post it one of these days.
