in reply to @scranmaster's post:

1,150 scran ought to be enough for anybody -- bill gates

my scraping/curation process to get the scran off twitter is a bit painful and not really ideal. would love to slam some scran eventually (especially if the game gets popular) but it would be a fairly irregular thing

thank you!

  • get every tweet from @FootyScran containing an image, i used an apify service for this (most of these services seem to have fallen apart since i did this so i'd need to find a new way)
  • load each tweet in a selenium browser session, look for a reply from @FootyScran containing a poll, scrape the poll data directly from the html
  • use a homegrown gui application to manually check each scran, populate a title/subtitle field manually, make sure the rating/price fields make sense (these often require correction because the way polls are set up is often inconsistent), check validated scran off

It's fitting that the American FC entries are all 5 dollar slices of pizza and other boutique food garbage, because there's no 'soccer' culture here, and Americans would not eat any of these other things. Also interesting to me, as I'd never really considered what people eat at football games.

Surprisingly few finger foods, lots of plate dishes with slops and sauces, many (deadly) utensils. Seems odd to me given the rowdiness of a typical sporting audience, and particularly by comparison to how un-rowdy a standard American baseball audience is, for how liberated the Baseball concessions are - it's all finger foods and snacks, and if you're eating something that can't be held in one hand, you're doing so at a miniature beer garden somewhere out by left field. The stands at an even remotely competitive football game must be covered in spilled brown sauces and sauerkraut!
