With AGDQ 2023 around the corner, I thought it might be fun to start getting some of the tags active here on cohost.
So to start, what is your favorite run from the GDQ archive? Post your answer with the tags below, and add any I missed!
Mine is JCog's SGDQ 2021 Paper Mario run.
re-sharing this bc I would love to see other people's favorites!
a few of mine:
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Blindfolded by Mitchriz (AGDQ 2022)
- I Wanna Kill the Kamilia 2 by BBF (AGDQ 2019)
- GTA San Andreas in 4:02:04 by Reset (AGDQ 2020)
- Animorphs in 52:31 by Keizaron (AGDQ 2020)
- Titanfall 2 in 1:23:45 by Bryonato (SGDQ 2019)
- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out in 23:39 by zallard1 & sinister1, blindfolded and 2 players 1 controller (AGDQ 2020)
**Axiom Verge any% (AGDQ 2021 Online) by me
Greak: Memories of Azur (SGDQ 2022) by me**
i had so much fun doing them and have such fond memories of them that it kind of dwarfs the entertainment value of other runs i've seen
but
The Link's Awakening (2019) race by TGH and Glan from SGDQ 2022 is definitely my top "not mine" run
Seckswrecks Celeste Classic S16 was a major turning point in my life so it's hard not to include it.
CGN F-Zero GX A14 AGDQ 14 was the first one I attended, F-ZERO is one of my favorite franchises and CGN to this day holds a top spot in my list of runners who absolutely dominate. This run is mind-blowingly difficult and he smashed it in front of a standing room only crowd.
Tetris:The Grand Master exhibition S15 the second appearance of the TGM series at games done quick. With japanese players in attendance, the hype coming off the previous exhibit was on another level. I made sure to get an aisle seat so I could pop off from just watching.
Sinister1 Punch out blindfolded A14 no one was paying attention and I managed to stay seated right behind the back couch with a clear view of the TV he wasn't playing on, unforgettable energy.
If you don't know about it already https://gdqvods.com/ is an invaluable resource for going back and finding runs to watch.
all of the above runs are stellar, and I wholeheartedly endorse them.
I'm going to be that basic bitch recommending the Super Metroid Any% race (oatsngoats, sweetnumb, zoast, & Behemoth87) from SGDQ 2016 and the TASBot Brain Age run (micro500, xy2_) from AGDQ 2016 because those two VODs were the ones that introduced me to GDQ, and I absolutely never get tired of going back to rewatch them. the Brain Age run is great just for the sheer amount of "you made the console do What??", and that particular race is a never-ending "THAT'S never happened before" and a reminder of how fuckin DIFFICULT Super Metroid is. I did not think a speedrun race could keep me on the edge of my seat-- until that run proved me very wrong.
