@dumplingsquid told me that "Juliet" features in today's NYT connections board, and I had the idea to make a connections board myself.

So! Only Connect-style rules, there are four categories that each have exactly four members, equally dividing the above board of 16 terms. Can you correctly figure out each of the categories and its members? Feel free to share your answers in the comments!

Games: Othello, Dixit, Chess, Sorry
Places: Crossroads, Hamlet, Village, Town
NATO phonetic alphabet: Hotel, India, Juliet, Romeo
Ice Cream: Pumpkin Pie, Coconut Cream, Pecan

I’m aware I only have three in ice cream and I didn’t place “trouble”, so likely I’ve missed something

like most of the nyt connections I manage to guess this by taking a wild stab in the dark at what american thing I hadn't heard off - chess pie, which apparently was originally from the UK to begin with and I guess we've all just forgotten our pie heritage. was more likely then dixit pie, at least

so with 16 words/clues, you're looking to find four groups, of four clues each, that equally divide the 16 clues. The grid is just cosmetic, this could be a list of words. There are some red herring categories, like "shakespeare characters", which would work except for the the remaining clues don't fit into neat groups of 4, so that can't be right. The "game" aspect comes from realizing the second meaning of things, like recognizing that there are 5 board games and only 3 obvious pies, but if you just google each of the potential board game titles with "____ pie" you can see that Chess Pie is a classic custard pie even if you hadn't heard of it before. Your goal is both to divide into 4's and to figure out what that particular group of 4 has specifically in common?

Phonetic Alphabet: India, Hotel, Juliet, Romeo
Places: Hamlet, Village, Town, Crossroads
Board Games: Sorry, Chess, Trouble, Dixit
Pie: Pumpkin, Pecan, Coconut Cream, Othello

this assumes that Othello is also a kind of pie...
