Further color decker thoughts, after various experiments:

  • I like 1 bit decker best for general decker things
  • color is an exciting tool for very specific types of projects
  • access to color is actually great for 1bit because you can use it as markers while planning layouts. which pattern is that series of dots part of? no idea. but bright orange is orange, and makes a perfect placeholder.

What's kinda funny is that, from a scripting perspective, Decker has had color since v1.0. There's even a little hint at it in the guided tour deck:
a canvas you can draw on... in red

The latest update doesn't fundamentally change anything about Decker, it just gives you a way to select colors when you're manually using the drawing tools.

They're just kind of lumpy and too thin at the edges... seems like they might chip a lot.

I wasn't going to fix them though 😌 that's a problem for the person who lives there.

This is neat, it's fun to search out the interactable parts.

I know almost nothing about Decker but it looks kind of cool. I'm not really the artistic type but I feel like I might want to play around with it at some point. Did you pixel poke the entire scene? In Decker too, or did you do it in some other program and import it? Seems like a lot of work, haha

I did the whole thing in Decker directly, it took a few hours, haha. Most of that was drawing time.
The art tools are similar to classic MSPaint? A bunch of pixel brushes, tools to make shapes, straight lines, bucket fill, etc.

After the drawing was done, the pop-ups were made using basic decker features so they went together very quickly.

This ended before the official color update, so most of them are in black and white.... but the Decker Fantasy Camp had a bunch of interesting projects recently, if you'd like to check more kinds of decks people have made.
