i'm falling pray to—not malapropisms typichally, but, more like idiosyncratic transliteral phoneticization. a few minutes ago i spelled the plural of "if" ("if's") as "eves", without even a second thought. if ifs are eves, perhaps then this is how the apple felt

This is the bane of my interlingual existence. I realised that when I'm typing, there's a cognitive shortcut from idea to fingers that takes a quick jaunt through phonetics. The latvian word "ar" (with) and the english word "are" are very similar in sound. "Ar" is a little shorter and with a proper rhotic r. And yet, I find myself often typing "things ar not what they seem" and "tiem nav sakara vienam are otru".
A cognitive shortcut with a quick jaunt through phonetics — that's it exactly!
