recently reinstalled bg3 to pick up my nonlethal-only dark urge first playthrough, now that the quest item bug has been patched out! turns out the game is fun and the characters and plot are interesting, when they work. However, the original sin of the conceit of this playthrough, and how it falls apart in the mechanical core of xp curves, has now stymied me: being level 6 going into the rooftop fight just does not mathematically work out in my favor

i am enjoying bg3 in that i keep running into what feel like impossible scenarios, and then i spend some resources and try to coordinate my party and end up beating them. which feels great in a vacuum!

but the problem is, i'm not stronger after having beaten the fight. and then the next fight is against a stronger set of enemies, but i'm not any stronger to match, and where i'm at (the end of act 2 area) i can't even respec my party to try and make less-RP and more-optimized mechanical decisions... it's kind of a bummer! i reached level 6 right before the gauntlet and you would think all the puzzles and bosses between then and now would make for some improvements rather than a mere whittling down of my special arrows and available potions

have you considered the goblins are full of delicious xp that you need? adventurers require this vital nutrition and trying to take them out of their natural circumstances can lead to malnutrition and party wipes!
