listen you really don't need to play total war warhammer. you don't. but if you really wanted to, and didn't want to pick it up through other means, Total War Warhammer II is $15 on steam this weekend, and the best DLC for it, The Twisted & The Twilight is only $5 right now. it's the only dlc where both sides of it I think are fun campaigns to play even in just the vortex campaign.

on the one hand you can play as a big fat rat dr. frankenstein named Throt the Unclean and his workshop of unpredictably monstrous creations, and on the other hand you can play as a pair of wood elf twins with some weird stuff going on, serene Naestra & tempestuous Arahan, the Sisters of Twilight, whose campaign fulfills the fantasy of anyone interested in fantasy, "what if my side had a hundred archers and i just killed things before they could reach me"

in reply to @folly's post:

i spent a weekend earlier this year (last year?) learning 4th edition warhammer ttrpg character creation for a campaign that didn't end up happening... i don't 100% understand your question (please feel free to rephrase it) but it's not worth anyone's time to learn unless there's something in it you absolutely want to see and/or an existing group to try to fit in with. no one in the warhammer spaces is interested in the most interesting parts of the wh fantasy, which means you're unlikely to find community in the community. but if you have time to sink into a grand strategy game (/want a podcast game), and want to commit 20-odd hours to experiencing a campaign on easy/normal difficulty and then drop it when you're done, then this is a better way to do that than many other games out there
